Wedding is very scared event that it needs meticulous preparation. The bride and groom need to understand in advance about everything related to their rights and responsibility once they are married. Therefore pre-marital coaching is a good solution to build a calm, loving, and blessed family. This research aims to find out the pattern of pre-marital coaching, how significant is the improvement of the bride and groom’s religious understanding as well as its supporting factors and obstacles. This is a descriptive qualitative reearch. The research location was the Office of Religious Affairs (KUA) of Sleman sub-district. The research objects were the head of KUA, clergyman, administrator, and 14 couples. The data was collected using questionnaire, interview and observation. It was then analyzed using data reduction, data display, data verification or conclusion. The result iindicates that 1) The coaching pattern conducted by the KUA of Sleman sub-district includes the coaching model, coaching advisor, coaching material, coaching method and coaching schedule. It can be concluded that the coaching pattern is in good category (79,29%), 2) The level of religious understanding includes holy matrimony, reproduction health, religious practice and family psychology. It can be concluded that the level of religious understanding is in high category (8,04%), 3) The coaching supporting factors include the participants’ enthusiasm, competent coaches and simple method of delivery. While the obstacles include inadequate facilities and infrastucture, incomplete coaching materials and a very short schedule. Keywords : coaching for brides and grooms, religious understanding.
