      Abstract
A level crossing is a place where a railway line and road meet on the same level which it has high accident potentials between both modes. This reseach aims to conduct a safety inspection on level crossing for observing required facilities and signs, traffic characterictics passing an crossing the railways, i.e queuing and delay time, and evaluating the pavement condition on the level crossing. This study took the case study on level crossing of JPL 725 KM 536 + 536 , Nyamplung Road, Sleman, Yogyakarta Special Region. This research method in using depth observation approarch in safety requirements in level crossing and comparing the findings to the safety regulations and laws. From the results, it is found that all safety facilities and signs have met to the safety regulatios. Whereas, the traffic characteristic in March 9-15, 2018 in peak traffic volume on Tuesday, March 13, 2018 was found to be 1.615 pcu/hour at the southern section and 1.746 pcu/hour at the northern section, respectively. The longest queuing lenght ant the highest delay time occured on March 10, 2018 at 2:16 p.m. at the southern section with lenght of 90 meters and delay time of 305 second. The demage level of the Nyamplung road based on PCI was found to be 61,2 which in considered as a good level.
