      Abstract
Background: Diarrhea caused by Escherichia coli can be treated with an alternative treatment using tea extract and honey, because the tea contains phenol substance consisting of catechins and flavanols that have antibacterial activity, while honey has a high sugar content, acidic pH honey that can inhibit the growth of bacteria. Objective: Knowing the numbers of small intestine bacteria and the effective dosege of combination of tea extract and honey in the small intestine of rats that have been in the infection of Escherichia coli. Research Method: The study design was laboratory experimental with the post test-only control group. This research was conducted in UGM Laboratory for 2 weeks in Februri-March 2018. The subjects of this study were white rats as many as 30 tails, divided into 5 groups (n = 6), K1 control group negative (not infected), group K2 positive control (infected with Escherichia coli without tea and honey extract), P3-P5 group (given tea and honey extract 50% -50%, 75% -25%, and 25% -75%). Result: The lowest average number of small intestinal in rats bacteria was Escherichia coli infected and given a 75% tea extract – 25% honey by 6.23 x 103 CFU/gram. The results of One Way Anova parametric test is p <0.05. This means that giving a combination of tea extract and honey affects the small intestinal bacteria rate in Escherichia coli infection. Conclusion: The effective dose of combination of tea extract and honey that can influence the number of small intestine bacteria in rats in Escherichia coli infection is 75% - 25%.
