      Abstract
      Background: Diabetes mellitus is a disease causing various complications. The key to managing diabetes mellitus is self management. Health cadres need to be empowered to faciliable people with diabetes mellitus to perform self-management. Objective: To explore the empowerment needs of health cadre related to diabetes management in Bantul. Methods: This study was descriptive analytic study. The sampling technique was accidental sampling. The respondents were 68 of community health cadres who were drawn fram the public health center with high population of diabetes mellitus which are Kasihan 2, Jetis 1, Sedayu 1, Jetis 2, Imogiri 2. The data were collected by using cadres empowerment needs questionnaire which was valid and reliable. The data were analyed by using descriptive analysis with distribution and frequency analysis. Results: The results show that most of the cadre has no experience about diabetes mellitus management as many as 44 people (64.7%), knowledge about diabetes mellitus management in the category quite as many as 42 people (61.8%), the credibility with helping patient to do a diabetes melitus management in the category quite as many as 40 people (58.8%), not got the funds intensive as much as 39 people (57.4%) and motivation to help patients undertake the management of diabetes mellitus in the medium category as many as 56 people (82.4%). Conslusion: Cadres need to be more empowered in terms of experience, knowledge, confidence, fund-incentive, and motivation. The nurse can involve cadres in helping patiens with diabetes mellitus management of diabetes mellitus. Further research can provide interventions to empower the cadre.
