      Abstract
      Background: Hypertension is one of the non-communicable diseases caused by an increase in systolic and diastolic blood pressure. In 2018 cases of hypertension in Indonesia reached 34.1%. The case of hypertension in Yogyakarta every year has increased 2018 to rank 2nd. The age that is often affected by hypertension is the elderly. In the elderly blood vessels have begun to experience a decrease in elasticity. The factor of the occurrence of hypertension is divided into 2, namely, factors that can be changed and which cannot be changed. Factors that can be changed hypertension are stress, obesity, smoking, consuming excess salt, lack of exercise, consuming alcohol and consuming coffee.Research Objectives: This study aims to identify the factors that cause hypertension in the elderly. Methodology: This type of research is descriptive quantitative using a cross sectional approach. Determination of the sample using purposive sampling and the number of respondents using total sampling. The instrument in this study was a FR-PTM questionnaire with closed ended questions. Results: The results of this study were respondents with BMI categorized as not at risk 31 respondents (75.6%), smoking behaviors categorized as not risky were 36 respondents (87.8%), consumption of high-salt foods categorized as not risky as many as 34 respondents (82, 9%), sporting habits categorized as risky were 22 respondents (53.7%), alcohol consumption categorized as non-risky as much as 41 responses (100%), coffee consumption categorized as nonrisky as many as 31 respondents (75.6%) and stress which is categorized as not risky as many as 36 respondents (87.8%). Conclusion: The results showed that respondents had hypertension risk factors that could be changed in sub-sports variables.
