      Abstract
Background : Metabolic dysregulation associated with diabetes mellitus causes secondary pathophysiological changes in several organ systems. One of them is hyperuricemia which has a long-term impact on joints damage, soft tissues, and kidneys. This certainly puts a tremendous burden on individuals with diabetes mellitus and the health care system in controlling the progression of diabetes mellitus. Aim : Determine the correlation between serum uric acid level and NLR values in type 2 diabetes mellitus patient. Method : This research used observational analytical method through a cross sectional approach with correlation analysis. Number of samples in this research were 75 patient medical records. The independent variable was uric acid level and the dependent variable was NLR values. After the data is obtained from each variable, then it is analyzed by using Spearman correlation test. Result : Results showed that patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus with normal uric acid levels amount 61.33% and 38.67% hyperuricemia. Furthermore, the data obtained from the results of the normal NLR value were 38.67% and 61.33% increased. The results of the analysis with the Spearman test obtained a significance number of p = 0.010 (significant) with correlation coefficient r = 0.295 (weak correlation)for the correlation of serum uric acid levels with NLR values. Conclusion : Based on these results it can be concluded that there is significant correlation between uric acid levels and NLR values in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus which shows the significance number p = 0.010 and the correlation coefficient r = 0.295.
