      Abstract
Background: Leukocytosis is thought to be directly associated with the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis and metabolic syndrome. Increased Neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) has proven its prognostic value in cardiovascular disease, infections, inflammatory diseases and in several types of cancers in type-2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). The aim of the present study was to assess the relationship between NLR and different level of glycemic control in T2DM. Method: An observational analytical method through a cross sectional approach was conducted at RS PKU Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta from September 2017 to August 2017, in which 40 T2DM patients were divided into two groups. Patients in group A with HbA1c levels ≤7% (controlled T2DM), and group B with HbA1c levels >7% (uncontrolled T2DM). Results: A total of 53 patients with T2DM were analysed. NLR values counts were significantly higher in group B compared with group A. NLR had positive correlation with uncontrolled T2DM Conclusion: Increased NLR values is associated with HbA1c and poor glycemic control in patients of T2DM. It can be used as a disease monitoring tool during the follow up of diabetic patients.
