      Abstract
      Antibiotics are widely recipe drugs in health care. Inappropriate use of antibiotics may cause unwanted effects such as allergies and resistance to antibiotics. This happens due to lack of public knowledge about proper antibiotic use. This research was conducted to determine the influence of counseling on the level of public knowledge about the use of antibiotic and the effect of giving counseling and leaflets to increase public knowledge. This research design is Quasi Experimental with a pretest-posttes Design with Control Grop. In this research, subjects selected by purposive sampling. Counseling is done by the method of speech, quastion and answer with the tools leaflets, analysis method by the descriptive analysis, paired sample t-test and independent sample t-test. The results showed that respondents with age ≤ 40 years, highly educated, working, and high-income, have a tendency to a higher level of knowledge. Measuring pretest and posstest in the treatment group showed a different knowledge with significant score ( P=0,000). Measuring the different between pretest and sposstest in the control group and treadment group showed a different knowledge with signifcant score (p=0,015).
