      Abstract
      Background: Nurses tend to have higher risk of work accidents than other industry workers, therefore it is important for health workers such as nurses use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as the protector of the sources of danger. Knowledge is an important factor in the use of PPE to prevent things that are not desirable for both patients and nurses themselves. The aim of this study was to determine the description of the level of knowledge of nurses on the use of PPE in medical-surgical inpatient wards PKU Muhammadiyah Hospital in Sleman Gamping. Methods: The study was a descriptive cross sectional approach and the population was nurses working in medical-surgical wards in PKU Muhammadiyah Hospital Gamping Sleman, sample number were 68 respondents with a total sampling technique. Collecting data were using valid questionnaires (Pearson Product Moment = 0.344) and reliable (Cronbach Alpha = 0.894). Univariate analysis with frequency distribution was used to data analysis. Results: The results of this study showed that most nurses had good knowledge 50 respondents (73,5%). On aged 26-35 years 25 respondents (69.4%), in the male gender 11 (90.9%), at educated respondents D3 40 (72.5%), the working period of 1-5 years 48 (70.8%), sources of information on the Internet 8 people (100%). Conclusion: Nurses who work in medical-surgical wards mostly have good knowledge as many as 50 respondents. It can be suggested to the hospital for doing periodicly training about Personal Protective Equipment application.
