Background : Oral and Dental therapeutic procedure frequently involve blood and saliva that may contain a variety of pathogens microorganisms, such as HIV(Human Immunodefficiency Virus). Dentist have a professional and ethical responsibility to provide treatment every patient, included patient with HIV/AIDS. The knowledge about HIV/AIDS is provision for a dentist to be able to provide a good treatment for patient with HIV/AIDS. Objective: to find out the knowledge description and hesitation of dental clerkship student about treatment to HIV/AIDS patient. Method : This was an observational using a cross sectional design. Subjects were 74 dental clerkship student in RSGM UMY using simple randomized sampling. A questionare was used to assess the knowledge of the samples to find out the knowledge description and attitude of sample about HIV/AID. Result : The result shown that among 74 samples, 12(16,21%) of them hold good knowledge, 46 (62,16%) samples hold average knowlege,16 (21,62%) samples hold poor knowledge. There are 12(16,21%) of them will treat a HIV patient without hestation, 44(59,46%) expressed some hesitation in treating patients with HIV/AIDS, and 18 (24,32%) will refer to elsewhere. Conclusion : More than half respondent have average knowledge about HIV/AIDS and expressed some hesitation in treating patient with HIV/AIDS.
