Background: Dental caries is the main problem in dental health community with a high prevalence of caries. Lack of knowledge is one of the factor that can increase the risk of caries. Objective: The aim of this study is to describe oral health knowledge and assess the status of dental caries in the communities of Dusun Sambirejo and Darakan, Prenggan village, District of Kotagede Yogyakarta. Methods: The study was observational using a cross sectional design. The sampling technique was multistage random sampling. Analysis of descriptive data. Subjects were 215 people in Dusun Sambirejo and Darakan, Prenggan village, District of Kotagede Yogyakarta. This study used a questionnaire about utilization of dental health facilities, frequency of tooth brushing per day, level trustworthiness of oral health, level knowledge of oral health while the assessment of caries status was measured using DMF-T index. Result: The result showed that 68.5% respondents have used dental treatment in public health center with dentist, private clinic dentist and dental assistant. Respondents on average 2-3 times daily toothbrushing and 160 respondents (72.07%) believe that the tooth can be maintained and the level of knowledge about oral health 117 (52.70%) was in the medium category. The average of DMF-T index was in the high category (9.2). Conclusion: The level of knowledge in oral health was included in the moderate category and the average of DMF-T index was in the high category.
