      Abstract
      Writing is a language activity for pouring ideas or concepts in the form of character or number a systematic way so that access to understand the subject will be easier. Writing is one of the essential abilities in the learning process, besides the abilities to read, to listen, and to speak including in the terms of learning and understanding the Qur'an. However, with the development of technology such as smartphones, writing habits began to shift from book to device. That is due to the convenience and practicality offered by smartphones such as the writing can be written repeatedly, and can be done anywhere and anytime compared to traditional writing. and the result is students ability to write using hands is qualified to be low. This is also occurs in the Qur'anic studying where student writing ability is less than the ability to read and memorize. In this research mobile learning applications used as one of the solutions to improve writing skills, because it can be run on a smartphone along with other the benefits of mobile learning application. The positive impact of writing Al-Qur'an character using smartphone is that the application can calculate the similarity and reduce the teacher task in evaluate of student activity. In addition, students are more interested in learning to write the Qur'an using the application.
