      Abstract
      This research aims to find out: (1) level of reading habits in Japanese text (2) level of writing skills in Essei Sakubun (3) level of correlation between habit of Japanese text reading habit and writing skill in Essei Sakubun on students of Japanese Language Eduaction Departement of Universitas Muhammadiyah YogyakartaYear2017/2018. The research is a study that apply quantitative descriptive method. The variables which are examined are habit of Japanese text reading (X) and the writing skills in Essei Sakubun (Y). Data are taken from 40 respondents by using total sampling technique. The data in this research were collected through questionnarrie and document. Data were analyzed by utilizing Pearson correlation bySPSSV22application. The result of this research shows: (1) students’ habit of Japanese text reading are in the low category (65%); (2) writing skills in Essei Sakubun results are in medium category (77.5%); (3) The correlation of reading habits in Japanese text and writing skills Essei Sakubun is classified as very weak. result of perason correlation as value many as 0.069 and significance 2-tailed value 0.672>0.005 whichmeansnegativesignificance.
