      Abstract
Background: Gingivitis is an inflammation that occurs in gingival tissue and unlike periodontitis, it does not involve attachment or loss of alveolar bone. Asthma patients with inhalers have a high risk of developing gingivitis. Individuals who receive inhalation therapy require optimal oral health care. Objective: This study aims to describe the gingival health status of inhaler users. This research used descriptive observational research with cross sectional approach. The population and sample in this study were asthmatic patients using inhalers at Rumah Sakit Paru Respira Yogyakarta in January 2018 and were taken by Purposive Sampling method with 24 respondents who were in accordance with the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The data were obtained from the results of examination of gingival health status, which was measured using the Modified Gingival Index (MGI) according to Lobene. Data analysis used in this research was descriptive analysis in the form of frequency distribution. Results: The results of this study showed that the prevalence of gingivitis in asthmatic patients with inhalers as many as 24 respondents (100%) fell into the mild gingivitis category. Conclusion: All samples (100%) had gingivitis and there was no normal gingival state.
