      Abstract
      Background: According to WHO, schizophrenia attacks more than 21 million people in the world. Consider high incidence of schizophrenia, appropriate treatment for the patients is needed. Less optimal treatment for schizophrenia patients may caused by lack of family knowledge about schizophrenia and how to deal with it, this will lead to bad family attitudes. The purpose of this study is to determine the correlation between knowledge with family attitudes toward schizophrenia patients in the area of Kasihan II Bantul Health Center. Methods: This research is a quantitative research, using an observational analytic with cross sectional approach. The total number of respondents were 60 60 representatives from each family of schizophrenic patients with the inclusion criteria are aged 18 - 60 years old and were willing to become respondents of the research. Respondents who did not complete the questionnaire were excluded from this study. Data analysis used Spearman's correlative test. Results: The knowledge level about schizophrenia with good category is 75%, moderate category is 20% and less category is 5%. Attitudes toward persons with schizophrenia (PWS), the majority are in the very good category by 55%, the good category by 43.3% and the moderate category by 1.7%. Statistical analysis shows that there is correlation between knowledge with family attitudes towards schizophrenia patients with the p value is 0,038. Conclusion: Family attitudes toward persons with schizophrenia (PWS) are categorized as very good. The knowledge level about schizophrenia are categorized as good. There is a significant correlation between knowledge and family attitudes towards schizophrenia patients in the area of Kasihan II Bantul Health Center.
