      Abstract
Inflammation is a respond of body facing tissue injury which is characterized by thickening of epidermis tissue, rising of inflammation cells and expression of COX-2 enzyme. Tin leaf (Ficus carica linn.) and bidara leaf (Zizyphus mauritania linn. ) are one of many herbs that have been used to reduce inflammation symptom. This study aimed to determine antiinflammation effect of ethanol extract of both herbs and the suitable gel formulation for both leaves. This study uses 15 groups of male Balb/C mice strand which were given treatment as follows: normal control, positive control, negative control, bidara extract 2,5% and 5%; tin extract 2,5% and 5%, combination extract 2,5% anf 5%, bidara gel 2,5% and 5%, tin gel 2,5% and 5%, combination gel 2,5% and 5%. Physical characteristics of the gel were tested, including organoleptic, pH, spreadability, adhesiveness, and viscosity also the antiinflammation effect were tested including epidermis tissue thickness, inflammation cells, and COX-2 enzyme expression. Mice were given 3 days treatment before sacrificed to obtain histopatological preparation made with HE staining and IHC. Data were statistically analyzed by Kruskal-Wallis followed by Mann-whitney. The result show gel formulation have good characteristic based on the result of organoleptic, pH 5,73-6,12, spreadability 3,29 cm, adhesiveness 2,98 second and the rheology pseudoplastic. Antiinflammatory effect show significant different between the treatment group of extract and gel compared to negative control (p<0,05), in other hand the result of comparison to normal control or positive control, it cannot be concluded that the treatment group has better activity in reducing epidermal thickness.
