      Abstract
Background: Low Birth Weight (LBW) is a term used to define infants whose birth weight is less than 2500 grams. LBW has a higher risk of pain than infant with normal weight. A practical and economical treatment for LBW is the Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC). This treatment is done by placing the baby on the mother's chest to make direct contact between the skin of the baby and the mother's skin. Purpose: The aim of this research was to determine the implementation of Kangaroo Mother Care for LBW who are hospitalized. Research method: Descriptive method was applied for this research to examine mother with LBW in PKU Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta, Gamping, dan Bantul with 9 people as respondents. It used the total sampling technique and was conducted within a month. Data were collected using observation sheets and questionnaires. Research Result: All mothers with LBW infants in the hospital had implemented KMC and the type of KMC that was applied was intermittent (100.0%). Classifications of LBW used in this study were prematurity (66.7%) and dismaturity (33.3%). The maximum time used by respondents to carry out KMC was 130 minutes and the minimum time was 0 minute. Most respondents had received support from health workers, husbands and families. Obstacles in the implementation of KMC in hospitals were the lack of understanding about KMC, how to do KMC, and feeling troubled. Conclution : Mothers with LBW infants in PKU Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta Hospital and Gamping had implemented KMC or KMC intermittently to be specific
