      Abstract
      Background: Type I diabetics is not as much of type 2 diabetes, it is about 2 - 3 percent. Self management support is the foundation of diabetes intervention. One of the keys of effective selfmanagement is the past of experience, so by looking at previous experience, than can be used as benchmarks to improve self-management at home. Objective: The purpose of this study was to explore the perception and experience of parents in the activities of self-management at home in children with type I diabetes. Research Methods: This study used a qualitative descriptive approach conducted in a natural setting. The primary data sources and data collection techniques on participant observation, in depth interview, and documentation. The determination of the partisipants are done by using purposive sampling. Participants in this study were five parents who have children with type I diabetes in Bantul Yogyakarta. Data analysis used qualitative content analysis. Results: Results of this study showed four themes identified by researchers, there are : 1) parental perceptions of type I diabetes, 2) the experience of parents about the incidence of type I diabetes, 3) overview about the activities of self-management type I diabetes in children, and 4) support system for self management activites in home for children with type 1 diabetes. Conclusion: The results of this study showed four themes identified by researchers and recommendation from this study was intend for health care services in order to provide education to patients and families about self-management for patients with type I diabetes to prevent complications in people with type I diabetes.
