Communication between doctor and patients is one of the part of giving health care. In previous study, 60%-70% of the diagnose and treatment planning is based on information obtained from anamneses or history taking. A succeed communication is able to build a therapeutic relationship between the patient and doctor so that the health care procedure can be done more optimally. PSPDG UMY provides therapeutic communication skills and theory since undergraduate program. This communication skill and theory is applied in dental profession program to communicate directly with patient in RSGM UMY. Aim: The objective of this study is to assess the relationship between knowledge level of therapeutic communication of dental profession students School of Dentistry UMY towards communication skills with patients in RSGM UMY. Method: This study is an analytic observational study with cross sectional design and conducted at RSGM UMY involving 105 samples selected by simple random sampling method. The instrument for this study are questioner and checklist. Result: The result of Spearman analysis showed p value 0.000 and correlation coefficient 0,574. There is a relation between knowledge level of therapeutic communication of dental profession students of School Dentistry UMY and the communication skills with patients in RSGM UMY. Conclusion: There is relationship between knowledge level of therapeutic communication of dental profession students School of Dentistry UMY and the communication skills with patients at RSGM UMY
