      Abstract
Bleaching is tooth-whitening process using chemicals. One of its contents is 35% Hydrogen Peroxide. Hydrogen proxide could damage gingiva. Damaged gingiva will undergo healing process through some phases, one of them is inflamtion phase. In this phase, PMN has the biggest role. Drugs are sometimes required to accelerate healing process, one of them is traditional drugs such as papaya leaf (Carica papaya L) which contains antiinflamatory agent can accelerate healing process. Aim : This research was aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of 75% papaya leaf (Carica papaya L) gel extract in accelerating healing process of damaged gingiva caused by hydrogen peroxide application (through PMN number and wound diameter observation) Method : This research was an invivo, experimental laboratories using male rat (Sprague dawley). In total 30 of 3-4 month rats, with 250-300 grams of body weight were involved and divided into 3 groups. Group 1 is positive control group, given only kenalog, group 2 were given 75% papaya leaf (Carica papaya L) gel extract, and group 3 were given only aquades as negative control group. All subject were exposed to leave wound, then treated regarding their group after 24 hours for 7 days. post treatment on day 1, 3, 5 and 7, diameter of the wound was measured and one of rats from each group would be euthanized and cutting mandible jaw for observed histologically to count PMN number. Data were analyzed using Saphiro- wilk normality test and Levene Variance homogenity test, followed with one way anova and compared using Least Significant Differences. Result : Shapiro Wilk normality test results obtained significance value of wound diameter and PMN cell counts ( p - value> 0.05) , indicating that the data of the wound diameter and PMN cells number have a normal data distribution . One way ANOVA analysis showed wound diameter in all three groups was p = 0.001 ( p < 0.05 ) while in PMN cells number in all three groups was p = 0.039 ( p < 0.05 ) , so there were differences of wound diameters and the number of PMN cells among all groups . Least Significant Differences analysis showed Group I and II have significant values are not much different. It is concluded that 75% papaya leaf (Carica papaya L) gel extract could accelerate healing process of damaged gingiva caused by bleaching.
