      Abstract
      Menarche is the first menstrual period experienced by children as a sign of the maturity of a woman. Menarche serves as the boundary between childhood and adolescence. The age of girls menarche was at the age between 10 to 16 years and the average going at the age of 12 years and 5 months. Experiences the children of primary school age is very important to know how a child's readiness in facing menarche. Purpose: This study aims to know the experience of primary school age children at the time of menarche. Method: This study uses a qualitative method with descriptive phenomenology design in-depth interviews. Participants were five participants registered as a student at the State Primary School Ngrukeman and has experienced menarche. Sample selection technique was by purposive sampling and using tape recording media for documenting the interview data Results: The results showed eight themes, namely 1) the dominance of children's feelings at menarche, 2) support at menarche, 3) preparedness for menarche, 4) the child's discomfort at menarche, 5) the meaning of menarche for children, 6) self-care of children during menstruation, 7) changes in children after menarche, 8) attempts to overcome the inconvenience of menarche Conclusion: Participants in this study had a majority of preparedness and understanding are still lacking about menarche so that they appear negative things in the face of menarche.
