      Abstract
      This study was conducted to determine how the representation of female characters who appear in the movie Colombiana (2011) tells of the exploits of a woman named Cataleya, played by Zoe Saldana. Character inherent in Cataleya is very independent, brave, strong, ruthless, smart and tough. Cataleya very bold play weapon he used to kill his enemies. This research uses a qualitative study using semiotic method. Semiotic methods used for the meaning of the symbols in the text to see the media and other forms of communication that are required as a system of signs. The object of research in the form of movie Colombiana (2011), directed by Oliver Megaton which has a duration of 1 hour 40 minutes. Data collection technique used documentation and literature. Data were analyzed using Semiotics of Roland Barthes. The results showed that (1) the film Colombiana showed that women who brave, independent, away from the tenderness of a woman and showed that women should not be to act with compassion but rather a rational intelligence. (2) Feminity character depicted in Columbiana, woman describe by filmmaker as a person who has duality, both strong and weak. (3) Feminism tend to portrayed less obvious because of the social constructionism shifts, where women shown as masculine figure based on the available symbols but on the other hand the myth remains intact, that women needs to appear beautiful and sensual.
