      Abstract
Background: Tooth pulp is the tissue which form dentin during tooth development. Pulp tissue will remain throughout lifetime to nourish surrounding odontoblasts. If an irritation occurs at the distal end of dentin tubules, odontoblast will form reparative dentin on the pulp surface. Indirect pulp capping is vital to dental treatment, sustaining the integrity, morphology, and function of the pulp. Indirect pulp caping is a treatment of deep carious which involve dentin, but there are still a layer of dentin found at the base of the cavity. Hard setting type of calcium hydroxide is one of the most used pulp capping materials which is considered to stimulate reparative dentin formation. Radiographs can be used as a process for evaluating the success of indirect pulp capping by observing the radiopaque and radiolucent of the periapical radiograph. This study was aimed to evaluate the success of hard setting type of calcium hydroxide as indirect pulp capping material at RSGM UMY. Method: Descriptive observational research method was used by observing periapical radiograph result of patients since the beginning of its indication until the last control afterthe treatment. Result: The results showed 201 cases (37.2%) were categorized successful, 240 cases (44.4%) doubtful, and 99 cases (18.3%) failed of 540 cases collected. Conclusion: It is concluded that hard setting type of calcium hydroxite was able to demonstrate its success as an indirect pulp capping material because the percentage of cases categorized as successful were higher than those categorized as failed.
