      Abstract
      Background: Intravenous insertion included into invasive treatment. Vocational and professionals nurses are required to have knowledge, commitment, competence and skills. Intravenous insertion influenced by patient characteristics, level of experience and competence. Purpose of this research to describe skills of intravenous insertion on vocational and professionals nurses RS PKU Muhammadiyah Hospital in Yogyakarta . Methods: The study a quantitative research with design descriptive used observation method. Samples in the study as much as 50 nurses there are 40 graduation from diploma and 10 professional nurses graduation from Ners. The sampling technique used total sampling. Data were analyzed by frequency distribution. The research instrument used SPO intravenous insertion. Results: The results of this study showed 21 vocational nurses (52.5%) have the competence category and 19 vocational nurses (47.5%) had less competence categories. As much 7 patients (70%) Professional nurses have competency categories and as many as three people (30%) had less competency categories. In the pre-stage interaction majority of nurses had less skilled category as much as 80%. In the orientation phase the majority of nurses have skilled category as much as 65%. In the implementation phase the majority of nurses have skilled category as much as 70%. In the termination stage the majority of nurses have skilled category as much as 55%. In document stage the majority is less skilled as much as 70%. Conclution and Recommendation: Overview skills of intravenous insertion in vocational nurses and professional nurses majority are competence category. Nurses are expected to sustain and improve the skills possessed.
