HUBUNGAN PUASA RAMADHAN DENGAN NILAI TEKANAN INTRAOKULAR PADA SUBJEK NORMAL USIA MUDA
Abstract
Background: Glaucoma is a disorder of optic neuropathy with characteristic visual field abnormalities and increased intraocular pressure (IOP) is a major risk factor. Based on eye health survey conducted by the Indonesian Ministry of Health in 2010 showed that glaucoma took second place after cataracts that cause of blindness in Indonesia. While Ramadan fasting is required to be carried out by Muslims in the span of 11-18 hours for one full month without stopping unless there is a particular reasons. And a young age still have a good body function and therefore has not raised a chronic disease.
Method : This research was analytic-numeric with method of cross-sectional approach. 70 subjects aged 10-21 yrs that has the inclusion and exclusion criteria are divided into 2 groups, group Ramadan fasting (I) and the control group (II) in an amount equal, 35 subjects in group I and 35 subjects group II. Data is collected in the same place of subject lived but in a different month. Data were analyzed using Independent T-Test test.
Results : From 70 subject found group I that having high IOP (> 20mmHg) as many as 21 people, while normal (12-20mmHg) as many as 13 people, and a low (<12mmHg) as much as one person. The number of group II who had high IOP as many as 15 people, while normal as many as 18 people, and lower by 2 people. On normality test results showed that data was not normal. Therefore, we used Non-Parametric test (Mann-Whitney). The result of the test is p = 0,071 (p> 0,05).
Conclusion : This study shows that there was a significant and strong relationship between social function and quality of life in schizophrenic patients.
