EFEKTIVITAS EKSTRAK BUAH SALAK PONDOH (Salacca zalacca) TERHADAP PERTUMBUHAN Candida albicans PADA PLAT RESIN AKRILIK
Abstract
Adherence and colonization of Candida species particularly C.
albicans on denture surfaces, forms a microbial biofilm, which may result denture
stomatitis that mostly found in complete denture users.
Purpose : The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the effectiveness of
Salacca zalacca extracts in inhibiting the growth of Candida albicans on
experimentally contaminated resin acryl plates.
Materials and Methods : In the present experimental study, 32 resin acrylic
plates (10 × 10 × 1 mm) were contaminated by immersion in 108 CFU/ml C.
albicans suspension for 24 hours. The 32 plates were divided into two groups of
16 and immersed for 8 hours in Salacca zalacca extract 100% of concentration as
test and sterile aquades as the negative control. The serial dilution was done and
planted into the saboroud agar media then incubated for 48 hours. The remaining
Candida albicans colonization on each growth media was enumerated and data
were analyzed using the SPSS 16 software with Independent T-tests.
Results : The result showed that the average number of the Candida albicans in
the tested group was 0,00225 and the average number of Candida albicans in the
control group was 0,0072. The result of the data analyses with Independent
Sample T-test showed the value of p = 0,000 (p<0,05) which means there were
significant differences in the growth of Candida albicans between tested group
and control group.
Conclusion : The extract of Salacca zalacca showed effective in inhibiting the
growth of Candida albicans on the resin acryl plate.
