The research aimed at finding out the leading sectors in Kutai Kartanegara Regency. The analysis used were Location Quentient , Shift Share Analysis, Growth Ratio Model analysis, Overlay Analysis, Klassen Typologi Analysis, an SWOT Analysis The research result Of LQ analysis Showed that there were two sectorcs that were leading sector. They were the sectors of agriculture, forestry, fishery, and mining and quarrying. The research result of shift share analysis showed that the sectors which were potential were the sectors of mining and quarrying because they had the biggest value in the contribution of Gross Regional Domestic Product in Kutai Kartanegara and had faster reveneun growth than that of the same sectors East Kalimantan Level. The Research result Of Growth Ratio Model Analysis Showed that Provision Sectors of processing Industry the biggest contribution and they were economy sector which were outsanding both in Kutai Kartanegara Regency and in East Kalimantan. The research result of Klassen Typlogy showed that the sectors of agriculture, forestry, fishery, and mining and quarrying were advanced sectors. Meanwhile Based on the result of the SWOT analysis the policy starategi of sector development which need to be taken is to increase the economy of the region thrphjy potential sector base, improve the quality of education and health service, improve the quality of public facilities and infrastructure and increase the competetiveness of the economy of the region
