      Abstract
Background Cataract and cataract surgery technique has been described in clinical epidemiology and basic research studies. Cataract surgery techniques influence the improvement of the patient's visual acuity. The purpose of this research to know the ratio of success level exstracapsuler and phacoemulsification by comparing the results of visual acuity before surgery and after surgery. Research Design The research was cross sectional. The subjects were all cataract patients exstracapsuler and phacoemulsification surgery at RSUD Panembahan Senopati Bantul and AMC eye clinic. This study used medical records of patients who underwent exstracapsuler cataract surgery and phacoemulsification. Collection data through hospital visits and observations. The data was analysis using chi-square test. Results From 15 patients phacoemulsification technique on the right eye showed 11 patients (73.3%) improved, 4 patients (26.7%) did not improve. 18 patients with exstracapsuler technique showed 7 patients (38.9 %) improve, 11 patients (61.1%) did not improve. In 15 patients with phacoemulsification technique in the left eye showed 9 patients (60%) improved, 6 patients (40%) did not improve. In 18 patients exstracapsuler technique, 7 patients (38.9%) improve, 11 patients (61.1%) did not improve. The result of statistical test Chi Square on the right eye showed significant with P 0.048 (P<0.005) that H1 is accepted. In the left eye showed not significant P 0.227 (P>0.005) so that H1 is rejected. Conclusion The success level postoperative vision of phacoemulsification is better than exstracapsuler cataract extraction in the right eye.
