dc.description.abstractDetection of pavement surface crack is very important to ensure users’ convenient and safety. Instead of conventional method by visual inspection, the use of image processing technology makes the detection easy and fast. However, the image processing technology yielded low accuracy rate due to the low quality of the surface image. Therefore, the objective of this research is to enhance the quality of image using pyramidal Gaussian method. This method combines two approaches, those are Gaussian low pass filter and pyramidal multi scale approach. The process of image enhancement involved preprocessing task, implementation of pyramidal Gaussian method and several filtering methods for comparison, and filter performance evaluation using some statistical parameters. The result showed that the proposed method performed the best general performance and ability to suppress the noiseen_US
