      Abstract
      Hipercholesterolemia is an increase in one or more total cholesterol, LDL (Low Density Lipoprotein) and triglycerides or decrease in HDL (High Density Lipoprotein) levels in the blood (Wells dkk., 2009). Hipercholesterolemia is a main cause of atherosclerosis and disease associated with atherosclerosis, such us coronary heart disease, ischemia cerebrovascular and peripheral vascular disease (Mahley dan Bersot, 2003). The prevalence of dyslipidemia in Indonesia increases every day. MONICA’s research (1998) showed that average cholesterol levels in women is 206,6 mg /dL and 199,8 mg/dL in men, in 1993, the average cholesterol levels increase to 213,0 mg / dL in women and 204,8 mg /dL in men. This research is conducted to know the effect of cherry leaves extract (Muntingia calabura L.) in increasing HDL level of rat blood (Rattus norvegicus) male wistar with hypercholesterolemia. This is an experimental research with pre-post test contol group design using the animals test of 30 male wistar rats divided into positive control group, negative control group, control group given cherry leaves extract respectively 100 mg/ kgBW, 200 mg/ kgBW and 400 mg/kgBW. The animals test are given the high-fat diet once daily for 14 days. Measurement of HDL levels using HDL reagents (Tungsten Phosphoric Acid 1,4 mmol / l and Magnesium Chloride 8.6 mmol / l). The result of statistical analysis showed that there is a meaningful difference between the groups (p <0.05). The extract group is proved to increase HDL levels in rat blood. The results showed the benefits of ethanol extract of cherry leaves 400 mg / kgWB for 2 weeks has an effective effect in increasing level of rat’s blood HDL that is induced with high-fat diet.
