Abstract
The process of thermal spray coating is an engineering process whereby the material layer is heated to melting and then melting at high pressure as individual particles or droplets to the surface (Pawlowski, 2008). In this research, thermal spray coating is used an alternative way that aims to improve the surface properties of industrial equipments with wear problems, such as gears and bearings. The quick and simple process can shorten the repair time so that losses can be minimized. This research uses coating material with FeCrMnNiCSi alloy element, and the second coating material chosen is coating material with FeSiCrMnNiBWCTiC alloy element. Both coating materials are selected because some of them have high hardness properties. Testing of mechanical properties is done by testing pull of boanding, microhardnest and ogoshi wear test. After observation on the result of testing of mechanical properties, it can be concluded that the thermal spray coating process can improve the mechanical properties of the material surface obtained from the results of hardness testing and wear resistance test has an average increase of 61.22%. With the greatest increase in material having coating layer with FeSiCrMnNiBWCTiC alloy element increased hardness by 78.04% and increased wear resistance by 86.10%. An increase in air pressure from 3 bar to 5 bar causes the hardness to increase by 16.99%. And wear resistance increased by 21.98%. Increased air pressure can also increase the coating strength of the coating layer with the substrate surface of 5.86%.
