SIMBOL DAN MAKNA KEISLAMAN DALAM BANGUNAN FISIK KRATON NGAYOGYAKARTA HADININGRAT
Abstract
When talking about the value of cultural roots, Ngayogyakarta Hadiningrat Palace could never be separated from the name of Islam. Since, Ngayogyakarta Hadiningrat Kingdom, later better known as "Kraton Jogja", is basically as the legal heir of the Islamic Mataram kingdom. So it can be said that the spirit of Kraton Jogja is Islam. The key to unveil the original story of Kraton Jogja is with the teachings of Islam itself, including the symbols embedded the building of Jogja Palace.
This study aims to explain (1) the kind of physical building of Ngayogyakarta Hadiningrat Palace, (2) to describe the symbol embedded on the physical building of Kraton Ngayogyakarta, (3) to explain the meaning of the symbol on the physical building of Kraton Ngayogyakarta
This research applied a qualitative approach with variety approach techniques such as literature study, observation, in-depth interview and documentation made to the courtiers of Kraton Ngayogyakarta Hadiningrat and local community figures. The data analysis is done by presenting the data, reduction and finally conclusions drawn.
In conclusion, the various buildings of Kraton Ngayogyakarta are Alun alun utara, Alun-alun selataan, Benteng Buluwarti, Bangsal kesatriyan, Bangsal kedathon, Bangsal Manis, Gedhong Jane, Bangsal Pagelaran, Prabayeksa, dan Siti Hinggil. The most important symbols that exist in Ngayogyakarta Hadiningrat Palace are Praban, Saton, Sorotan, Mirong Motif, Sengakalan of the dragon and Gupala. In terms of symbols that exist in the physical building, Krato Ngayogyakarta Hadiningrat shows that the acculturation of Islamic culture iis very deep meaning of Islam itself, but in addition there is also acculturation with hindhu’s culture within some symbols and ornaments.
