REPRESENTASI MULTIKULTURALISME DALAM FILM " TENGGELAMNYA KAPAL VAN DER WIJK" KARYA SUNIL SORAYA FILM
Abstract
The growth of Indonesia film industry has increased. The film as a source of
expression, development of Arts, culture, education, entertainment and other
information, are able to communicate the message to the audience. Otherwise, the
issue of multiculturalism is still the thing that is so exciting for discussed. In some
parts of the world, multiculturalism is considered a very serious distinction. In
Indonesia the distinction within the community it could be something good or
otherwise, for someone distinction cultures will usually be the gossip, bully, even the
appearance of prejudice and etnose. The effects of such behavior makes a person
placed at a lower position in social, political, and economic power. This study to
analyze about the representation of multiculturalism that is contained in the film
“Tenggelamnya Kapal Van Der Wijck” produced Sunil Soraya.
The method used in this research is semiotics theory of Roland Barthes. Semiotics
theory of Roland Barthes insists on the meaning of connotation, denotation, and the
myth. Semiotics theory of Roland Barthes used researchers to break the mark
contained in the film “Tenggalamnya Kapal Van Der Wijck.”
The results of the analysis show that multiculturalism that exists in the film that the
Minangkabau as a woman it was not easy to determine something they want (soul
mate), as if all was arranged by the parents and is limited by tradition. The film
depicts the culture matrealineal on custom Minangkabau and there appear jumbled
Western culture in it.
