Thailand has been a regional hub for international migration outgoing, incoming, and transiting in the country. The majority of international migration inflow into the country is Myanmar who has emigrated on account of political instability, economic hardship and the repressive policies of the Myanmar government. However, the two-digit economic growth in the 1980s led Thailand to the expansion of labor market and an acute labor shortage especially at the low-skilled level. Currently, it is less likely to be argued that Myanmar migrant workers are active in all sectors of the economy and they have played a very important role in the Thai labor market. As a result, the Thailand government expressed their demand for laborers to fulfill the shortage of labor in country by adopt an immigration policy for Myanmar migrant workers.en_US
