      Abstract
      Background: Using of fixed orthodontic appliance can give an impact and can change the oral environment, the composition of the oral flora, and increase the number of plaques that can cause caries, periodontal diseases such as gingival inflammation or called gingivitis. Objective: To know the difference of health status user of fixed orthodontic between men and women in Faculty of Social and Political Sciences in Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta generation of 2017. Methods : Type of this research was analytic observasional, with research design cross sectional. The subjects in this study were 23 respondents , They were active students of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences generation of 2017 who used a fixed orthodontic appliance for 1 to 2 years. Then the sampling technique was used non probability sampling with total sampling technique. Result: Data of female respondents with of low criteria were 12 respondents, moderate criteria was 1 respondent, and none with severe criteria. Data for male respondents with gingivitis score of low criteria were 5 respondents, moderate criteria were 4 respondents, and with severe criteria was 1 respondent. The result of the Mann-Whitney test shows the significance was 0.004. Conclusion: There is a significant difference between gingivitis that occurs in men and women.
