HUBUNGAN KONTROL DIRI DENGAN MOTIVASI BERHENTI MEROKOK PADA MAHASISWA TEKNIK MESIN UNIVERSITAS MUHAMMADIYAH YOGYAKARTA
Abstract
Background: Cigarettes have great addictive power and can cause addictive effects. The increasing prevalence of smokers is the most important problem that increases every year, the number of male smokers over the age of 15 is 66%, in other words, three of the men over 15 years of age in Indonesia are smokers. The number of teenagers who smoke mainly among students, most of them have the motivation to quit smoking but failed due to several factors one of which is the lack of self-control.
Research Objectives: Knowing self-control with motivation to stop smoking with the students of Mechanical Engineering of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta.
Research Method: This research is a quantitative research with correlational design which shows relationship between self control with motivation to quit smoking. The design of this study with cross sectional approach using Spearman Rank statistical test. The sample in this study were 35 people by using purposive sampling sampling technique. The research data was taken using the instrument in the form of questionnaire.
Result: The result of statistical test shows that the student's self-control of Mechanical Engineering in 2016 is mostly in the medium category that is 25 people or equal to 71,4%, whereas the motivation to stop smoking of student of machine engineering class of 2016 is mostly in medium category that is 18 person or equal to 51.4%. The result of spearman rank analysis shows that significancy value (p) is 0,026 (p <0,05) which means there is relationship between self control with motivation to stop smoking.
Conclusion: There is a relationship between self-control with motivation to stop smoking at Mechanical Engineering students of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta with positive correlation direction and weak correlation strength.
