PENGARUH MINUMAN BERKARBONASI TERHADAP KEKASARAN PERMUKAAN TUMPATAN KELAS V MENGGUNAKAN SIK KONVENSIONAL, KOMPOMER, DAN RMGIC
Abstract
Background: Conventional GIC is restoration material which often used to restore class V cavities. One of this material’s weakness is the easy increase of its surface roughness when in an environment with los pH. Coca-Cola is the example of carbonated beverage which has low pH. Therefore, resin composite was added to reduce the weakness of conventional GIC. Materials with both conventional GIC and composite resin are, for instance, RMGIC and compomer.
Purpose: To know the effect of Coca-Cola immersion on the surface roughness of conventional GIC, RMGIC, and compomer on class V restoration.
Method: This research used laboratory experiment method in which the samples were divided into three groups. Each group consists of 9 samples prepared with class V cavity. Group I was restored with conventional GIC, group II was using RMGIC, while group III was restored using compomer. Then, the samples were kept in artificial saliva and immersed in Coca-Cola 3 times a day. This method was conducted for 7 days with 5 minute duration in each immersion. Before and after immersion process, the surface roughness of each sample was measured and then compared.
Result: The all three restoration materials tested showed significant increase in the surface roughness after being immersed in carbonated beverage. The highest increase was shown in conventional GIC group, in contrary, the lowest increase was shown in compomer group.
Conclusion: There was significant effect of carbonated beverage on conventional GIC, RMGIC, and compomer surface roughness. In terms of the increase, the highest to lowest increase was shown in GIC conventional, RMGIC, and compomer group respectively.
