HUBUNGAN ANTARA TINGKAT PENGETAHUAN ORANG TUA TENTANG KESEHATAN GIGI DAN MULUT DENGAN STATUS KARIES GIGI ANAK
Abstract
Background: The prevalence of dental caries on children aged 3 to 6 in Yogyakarta is 84,1%. Parents’ knowledge on oral and dental healthcare are crucial to build children’s attitude and behavior of oral and dental health. Parents’ knowledge on oral and dental healthcare is related to children’s frequency of brushing teeth, which also influences dental caries incidence on children.
Objective: To identify the correlation between Parent’s Level of Knowledge on Oral and Dental Healthcare and Incidence of Dental Caries on Children aged 4 to 6 at Aisyiyah Bustanul Athfal Kindergarten of Karang Tengah.
Method: Type of this research is observational analysis with cross sectional design, and the subjects were all students of Aisyiah Bustanul Athfal Kindergarten of Karang Tengah aged 4 to 6 total of 34 students who belong to inclusion criteria, and parents who are willing to participate as research sample. Data was analyzed using pearson product moment test to identify correlation between parent’s level of knowledge on oral and dental healthcare and incidence of dental caries on children.
Result: Pearson product moment test resulted in value of p = 0,66 (p>0,05) means there is no correlation between parent’s level of knowledge on oral and dental healthcare and incidence of dental caries on children.
Conclusion: There is no correlation between Parent’s Level of Knowledge on Oral and Dental Healthcare and Incidence of Dental Caries on Children aged 4 to 6 years at Aisyiyah Bustanul Athfal Kindergarten of Karang Tengah.
