GAMBARAN TINGKAT DEPRESI PADA MAHASISWA RANTAU UNIVERSITAS MUHAMMADIYAH YOGYAKARTA
Abstract
Research Background: Depression is a mental health problem that can be suffered
by various age groups and the sufferers is expected to increase from year to year.
Some literature says that students are vulnerable to depression. Depression in
students can happen because students are in transition period from adolescence to
young adulthood. In addition, depression in students can be caused by lifestyle
changes so that sleep patterns and eating patterns are disrupted, financial problems,
relationships with lecturers, relationships with new friends, academic worry and
separation from family.
Research purposes: To know the depression level depiction in overseas students.
Research methods: The design used in this research is descriptive analytic. The
population in this study is the students of Muhammadiyah University of Yogyakarta
with 17.912 people. Using random sampling technique, 434 respondents is obtained
to be research subjects. This research using Back Depression Inventory
questionnaire as the instrument. Data analysis using univariate analysis technique.
Result: The majority of respondents were in the 6th semester (32.3%), the majority
of respondents aged 21 years (28.6%), the majority of respondents are female
(72.4%), the majority of respondents residing in dormitory (68.0%), the monthly
expenses of the majority of respondents are Rp. 1,000,000 - Rp. 1.500.000 (35.9%).
Depression rates for overseas depression students were normal (49.5%), mild
depression (29.0%), moderate depression (18.7%) and major depression (2.8%).
Conclusion: Student of Muhammadiyah University of Yogyakarta experienced
minimal depression..
