dc.description.abstract | The Palace and Vredeburg historical sites are located in urban city of Jogjakarta. As with most cultural heritage sites, Historic Benteng Vredenburg and Kraton can be classified as possessing public goods-type characteristics, and as such, welfare benefit estimates must utilize non-market valuation techniques. To date, the primary valuation methodology used for cultural heritage sites research involves stated preference methods. This study employ a revealed preference methodology, the travel cost method and contingent valuation method.
Travel cost and contingent valuation methods are applied to the problem of estimating the potential consumer surplus available to tourists from heritage tourism in Jogjakarta. Data are derived from surveys of tourists in Jogjakarta. Typical trip travel cost model are used to estimate changes in heritage tourists’ consumer surplus when heritage sites are developed for heritage tourism. The results are compared with contingent valuation analysis of willingness-to-pay of heritage tourists in their current trip to heritage sites of Jogjakarta.
The result of travel cost method indicates that tourists’ average travel cost is estimated at no more than one million rupiahs. The contingent valuation method concludes that the tourists’ average willingness to pay in their trip to heritage sites of Jogjakarta is estimated at a reasonable amount of no more than one hundred thousand rupiahs. | en_US |
