PENGARUH EDIBLE COATING KOMBINASI ALGINAT DAN MINYAK ATSIRI SEREH PADA UMUR SIMPAN BUAH BELIMBING BANGKOK MERAH (Averrhoa carambola L)
Abstract
The study aimed to study effectiveness of alginate edible coatings with citronella essential oils in extending shelf life of sweet star fruit. The research was conducted by laboratory experimental method arranged in Completely Randomized Design with factorial treatment design (2 x 3). The first factor was alginate concentrate consist of two levels, 2% and 3%. The second factor was the concentrate of citronella essential oil consists of three levels, namely 0.6%, 0.7%, and 0.8%. The results showed that the alginate 2% + essential oil of 0.6% lemongrass is the most effective to extend shelf life of the sweet red bangkok starfruit up to 12 days of storage. The addition of citron essential oil did not able to ssustain the occurrence of burning on the surface of the fruit skin.
