KONTROVERSI PEMBANGUNAN NEW YOGYAKARTA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT DALAM PEMBERITAAN TRIBUN JOGJA DAN KEDAULATAN RAKYAT
Abstract
The New Yogyakarta International Airport (NYIA) development controversy as a substitute to the previous Yogyakarta Adisucipto Airport has caused conflicts between the government and AP I with the Kulon Progo natives, especially those who live in the Palihan village and the Glagah village, in the sub district of Temon. This tempestuous conflict started in 2012 and since then has caused some pros and cons amongst the villagers. This long term conflict has finally resurfaced on December 2017, which then has become an intense coverage for the local media, such as Tribun Jogja and Kedaulatan Rakyat.
The purpose of this reserach is to distinguish the framing coverage differences between Tribun Jogja and Kedaulatan Rakyat in publishing the NYIA mega project development, and the factors that influence those differences. Hence, the framing theories in this research covers the journalism and printed mass media, as well as the framing concept analysis in the news and factors that influence its coverage. The data used in this research are compiled from both the Tribun Jogja and the Kedaulatan Rakyat which covered the NYIA development controversy news, published on the 3rd to 9th of December 2017. These data are compiled using the documentation technique, which then analised using the Zhongdang Pan and Gerald M. Kosicki analising technique model.
This research has resulted some differences in framing coverage between the two printed mass media. The Tribun Jogja’s point of view regarding the conflicts is strongly placed on the villagers opposing the NYIA development. On the other hand, the Kedaulatan Rakyat viewed the conflict is strongly placed among the government and the AP I. Hence, the framing coverage differences are affected by two factors; the level of organisation and the level of media extra.
