This research was conducted to find out how the empowerment model and zakat fund distribution strategy for economic empowerment of disadvantaged families in Yogyakarta, then to find out how the impact felt by members of the empowerment program by Yogyakarta BAZNAS and DT-PEDULI Yogyakarta. This research is a type of field research with a qualitative approach and uses descriptive analysis method. The data collection technique by the author uses observation, interviews, and documentation studies which are then interpreted according to the phenomena and problems found in the field while carrying out the research. The subjects of this study were Yogyakarta BAZNAS and DT-PEDULI and Mustahik from the two amil zakat institutions. The results of this study are first, to distribute zakat funds collected by the two amil zakat institutions through several programs, one of which is economic empowerment. Economic empowerment is done by mentoring for entrepreneurial activities. Second, the zakat funds distributed are used to develop and to open new businesses. Third, the zakat funds channeled by BAZNAS in Yogyakarta City and DT-PEDULI have an impact on increasing the economic mustahik.
