PENGARUH VARIASI SUHU PELAPISAN KHROM PADA PLASTIK ABS DENGAN METODE ELEKTROPLATING
Abstract
Electroplating is intended for a variety of purposes ranging from rust protection such as zinc coating to steel that is used for various purposes of building materials and construction. Copper coating is basically intended to make objects have a harder and shiny surface than that as well as protection against corrosion. ABS plastic is included in the thermoplastic category containing acrylonitrile, butadiene and styrene. Compared to other types of plastic, ABS plastic is a type of plastic that has a greater success factor for plating, this is due to the easy surface of the ABS plastic chemically etched. This study aims to determine the effect of temperature variations on chrome electroplating coating on layer thickness, roughness and hardness of chromium produced in the chrome electroplating process.
The research variable used in this study is the variation of chrome plating electroplating temperature with variations of 55oC, 60oC and 75oC. The test variables carried out were tests of physical characteristics which included micro testing, SEM testing, thickness testing, roughness testing, and mechanics which included hardness testing.
The results showed that the thickness of the chrome layer increased at a temperature of 55oC with a thickness of 36.25 μm and decreased at a temperature of 60oC and 75oC with an average value of thickness of 24.33 μm and 21.53 μm. In the roughness test, the roughness of the specimens increased at a temperature of 55oC with an average roughness value of 0.606 μm, and decreased at a temperature of 75oC with an average roughness value of 0.40 μm. In the hardness test the highest hardness value occurs at a temperature variation of 75oC with an average roughness value of 112.60 and the lowest hardness value occurs at a temperature variation of 55oC with an average roughness value of 111.73
