OPTIMASI FORMULASI SEDIAAN ANTISEPTIK HAND SANITIZER DARI MINYAK ATSIRI DAUN CENGKEH MENGGUNAKAN DESAIN FAKTORIAL
Abstract
Cloves are one of the plants that contain essential oils that have antibacterial activity,
especially in the leaves. The main content that is efficacious as an antibacterial is eugenol.
The aim of this study was to optimize the hand sanitizer gel made of clove leaves essential
oil using carbopol as the gelling agent and propylene glycol as the humectant so that the
optimal formulation was obtained which included physical properties and antibacterial
test.
This research was an experimental study using factorial design methods. Tests
on the physical properties of the gel parameters include the stickiness test, spreadability
and viscosity of these parameters made countour plots, then the countour plots formed are
combined into one which produces a super imposed countour plot, the shaded area shows
the optimal area of optimization of the oil gel formula volatile clove leaves.
This research shows that carbopol has an effect on viscosity and adhesion, while
propylene glycol has an effect on dispersion. On optimizing the clove leaves essential oil
gel formula, the super imposed countour plot was obtained with the optimum formula of
Carbopol at 0.50 - 0.85% and propylene glycol at 2.7 - 3.7%.
