The purpose of this research is to find out the motives of Islamic universities students in Yogyakarta in following Awkarin’s instagram account. The researcher wanted to know the motives that made students of Islamic universities in Yogyakarta interested in following Awkarin's instagram account, while Awkarin's fashion styles and her behaviour are not appropriate with Islamic law. This research used qualitative research method. This research was conducted in April 2018 until February 2019 in Yogyakarta. The informants of this research were the UII, UMY, UAD, and UIN Yogyakarta students who use instagram social media and follow Awkarin’s instagram account. The researcher conducted the interview with 8 informants from those Islamic universities. This research shows that the informants have different motives in folloeing Awkarin instagram account. Informant DS’s motivation was searching references of photography, endorsement, and traveling. Informant RG’s motivation was influenced by curiosity towards Awkarin because of her controversial actions. Informant RG also wanted to make Awkarin instagram account as a photographic reference. Informant EP’s motivation was searching references of fashion style. Informant NZ’s motivation was influenced by curiosity towards Awkarin because of her controversial actions. Informant NZ also wanted to make Awkarin's instagram account as a photographic reference. Informant IL’s motivation was searching references of fashion style and arrangement of instagram feeds. Informant Ar’s motivation was influenced by curiosity toward Awkarin because of her controversial actions. Informant AR also wanted to make Awkarin's instagram account as an endorsement reference. Informant FW’s motivation was searching references of photographic and endorse.
