PENAPISAN FITOKIMIA DAN UJI AKTIVITAS ANTIBAKTERI EKSTRAK ETILASETAT DAN N-HEKSAN DAUN JARAK PAGAR (Jatropa curcas Linn) TERHADAP Shigella flexneri ATCC 12022
Abstract
Diarrhea is a disease that commonly found in the digestive tract. A severe diarrhea is occurred when the blood was found in the stool (shigellosis). Jatropha curcas leaves identified containing some compounds such as tannin, alkaloid, steroid and saponin which has the effect of antibacterial. This assay aims to investigate the compounds and the antibacterial activity of ethyl acetat and n-hexane extract of Jatropha curcas leaves in inhibiting the growth of Shigella flexneri ATCC 12022.
Jatropha curcas leaves was extract using maceration method with ethyl acetat and n-hexane as the solvent. The extract was tested by TLC and phytochemical screening. Antibacterial activity assay was conducted by Kirby Bauer diffusion disc method using 5 concentration (5%, 15%, 25%, 50% and 75%). Ciprofloxacin 5mg/ml was used as positive control. The inhibition zone diameter of the extract was compared with the inhibition zone diameter of Ciprofloxacin.
The result showed that ethylasetat and n-hexane extract of Jatropha curcas containing steroid, saponin, tannin and alkaloid. The antibacterial activity of the extract as an inhibitor of Shigella flexneri ATCC 12022 growth had low activity.
