PERBANDINGAN NILAI MODULUS ELASTISITAS PADA MODIFIKASI LAPISAN BALAS DENGAN CAMPURAN KARET BEKAS DAN ASPAL
Abstract
Current modes of railroad-based transportation in Indonesia are beginning to experience rapid development. However, problem related to the service life and maintenance costs for conventional rail track become important issues in the Indonesia’s railroad infrastructure. Therefore, it is important to initiate an innovation in technology of the mixed material in ballast layers which can increase the ballast material durability and optimize the performance of railroad structures. In this study 10% scrap rubber from waste tires and 2% asphalt were utilised and the compressive strength test was conducted with 3 types of specimens, namely ballast (1), ballast with scrap rubber (2), and ballast with asphalt (3). The purpose of this study was to analyze the characteristics of vertical deformation, aggregate abrasion, and elastic modulus of each sample. The results obtained from this study indicate that the largest vertical deformation value (5 mm), with the stress achieved by specimen 2 is 96,72 kPa (ballast with scrap rubber). Furthermore, the lowest ballast abrasion was found in specimen 2 (ballast with scrap rubber), 53.3 gr (1.06%). Also, the large modulus of elasticity is achieved by specimen 1 (ballast), 26.52 MPa.
