HEATING MANTLE UNTUK DESTILASI ETANOL DILENGKAPI TIMER DAN PENAMPIL SUHU
Abstract
Heating mantle or isomantle is one of the laboratory equipment used to apply heat to the container in order to carry out the process of distillation or separating liquid chemicals by using heat. Distillation is one method of purification by separating two or more components in a liquid based on the vapor pressure difference of each component. Distillation in the laboratory is generally used to do liquid separation with low boiling points such as ethanol. Ethanol has health benefits as it is used for antiseptics, as a solvent for various chemicals and many more. But distillation procces using open flame process will be very dangerous because the fire can grab at the vapor of organic solvents. So the authors innovated a heating mantle for distillation by using a dry heater as a heater that will heat the tube as well as monitoring the temperature of the liquid using an lm35 sensor with a digital timer and an lcd viewer. Based on the results of the research obtained the results of 79 0C temperature measurements with an average of 79,6 0C, and an error value of 0,7 %. This value is still at the allowable threshold of +/- 1 0C. Then for a timer that is set for 2 Hours 30 Minutes an average of 2 Hours 28 Minutes is obtained and an error of 1,3 %. And obtained for ethanol yield with an average of 144 mL. After testing in general it can be concluded that the heating mantle for ethanol distillation is equipped with timer and temperature display can be used properly and is still within the tolerance threshold value
