Abstract
This study aims to determine whether there is a correlation between mastering Japanese vocabulary to the ability to speak Japanese in second grade students of University of Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta and aims to determine the factors affecting the correlation based on respondents’ responses.
The method of study used is the Correlational method of finding relationships between the two research variables. Sample in this study is the second grade students of University of Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta in academic year 2018-2019 as many as 43 people. The instruments that was used are documents and polls. Document data that was obtained from the competency test score of Chukyu Moji Goi and Sochukyu Kaiwa competency test scores. Then the data was calculated using the product moment formula. The poll managed to obtain the answer in the form of student perception of Chukyu Moji Goi courses and Sochukyu Kaiwa courses.
The results of data analysis are revealed that the competency test score of Chukyu Moji Goi does not affect the acquisition of Sochukyu Kaiwa Competency test scores, as it does not have significant significance for correlation. The results of the analysis showed a value of 0.210 < 0.301 (r count of < R table) then according to the hypothesis test criteria then H0 accepted and Ha rejected. The results of the poll show the perception of the respondent to the study subject, which is largely argued that there is a link between the mastery of Japanese vocabulary and the ability to speak Japanese even though If viewed from a correlation test states there is no correlation between the two variables.
